Mole Checks

Skin moles are typically dark, raised spots on the skin that are usually benign. However, in some cases, they can develop into melanoma, a type of skin cancer that can be deadly if left untreated. Regularly checking moles /blemishes on your skin and monitoring changes in their size, shape, and colour is crucial in detecting early signs of cancer.

Dermoscopy is a non-invasive technique used to examine moles and other skin lesions with a special instrument called a dermatoscope. This tool uses a magnifying lens and a bright light to help doctors examine the mole’s structure and colour patterns, which can provide valuable information about its potential risk of developing into skin cancer.

During a dermoscopy exam, the doctor will apply a small amount of oil or gel to the mole’s surface and then place the dermatoscope against the skin to closely examine the mole’s features. The doctor will look for signs of irregular borders, uneven colour, asymmetry, and other characteristics that may indicate the need for further testing or biopsy.

Regular dermoscopy exams can help identify potential skin cancer at an early stage when it is easier to treat, leading to a better prognosis and outcome for the patient.

We provide a full body mole and blemish check as well advise on how to self monitor. During the consultation you can also discuss removal if desired.
