Warts and Verrucas

Viral warts, also known simply as warts, are common skin growths caused by infection with human papillomavirus (HPV). There are several types of HPV that can cause warts, and they can affect different parts of the body, including the hands, feet, face, and genital area. Warts are usually non-cancerous and typically appear as rough, raised bumps on the skin with a roughened surface.

Verrucas, or Verrucae, are a specific type of wart that occurs on the soles of the feet (plantar warts) or around the toes. They are often flat or slightly raised and may have a rough surface with tiny black dots (clotted blood vessels). Verrucas can be painful, especially when walking or standing, due to pressure on the feet.

Both warts and verrucas are contagious and can spread through direct skin-to-skin contact or indirectly through contact with contaminated surfaces, such as floors in public places like swimming pools or locker rooms.

These can be treated by cryotherapy (freezing) using liquid nitrogen. In certain patients they may require a small surgical procedure.

Prices for removal are discussed during you pre-operative consultation which is £75. Cryotherapy is from £120.
